After last night’s win at LSU, Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes passed John Calipari to become the coach with the most all-time wins in college basketball among active coaches.
Barnes now has 829 wins while Calipari sits at 828.
Now, it is worth pointing out, in all fairness, that this feat comes with a few asterisks.
*Calipari, along with Rick Pitino and Bill Self, would rank ahead of Barnes among active coaches had they not all had a bunch of wins vacated.
Buuuuuut … would these guys still be ahead of Barnes had they not cheated???
Maybe. Maybe not. Nonetheless, it’s cool to see Barnes officially leap ahead of Cal in all-time wins.
Arkansas plays Texas tonight, so Cal does have the opportunity to tie Barnes again.
But given that Tennessee is winning at a much higher clip than the Hogs right now, I’d say it’s likely this mark will stand at the completion of the 2024-25 season.
Pretty cool.
