Everyone loves a good college football mascot. In the SEC, Smokey, Uga, Mike, Aubie, and Big Al are some of the most recognizable and lovable mascots among their respective fan bases.

But then there’s a class of mascots that are lovable because of how bizarre and amusing they are. This includes the Stanford Tree, Otto the Orange, and of course, Big Red.

While all of these mascots are equally strange but entertaining, their respective programs have yet to feature them as a part of their uniform.

That is until October 10, when Western Kentucky is slated to play UTEP in Bowling Green.

Western Kentucky is going with a “red out” theme for this game, and it stuck the eyes of Big Red on its helmet.

The Hilltoppers are 3-2 a month into the 2024 season. The only two losses are against power four foes Alabama and Boston College, the latter of which they held on against.

A 31-0 shutout of Eastern Kentucky, a 49-21 victory over Middle Tennessee in the rivalry known as “100 Miles of Hate,” and a 26-21 survival against the Toledo team that took down Mississippi State are the three wins.

The Hilltoppers aren’t in danger of having a season go down the drain or anything, but Big Red mojo can only help against the currently winless UTEP Miners.
