Tennessee announced Thursday it would wear its new iteration of the smokey grey uniforms in its opener against Chattanooga.

This will be the ninth time the Vols have donned smokey greys in the last 11 seasons and the fourth iteration of the uniform in that period.

The original smokey greys debuted in a pair of heartbreaking losses to both Georgia and Vanderbilt back in 2013.

The original look did not feature a grey helmet, but the jersey, pants, and cleats were all grey.

The Vols took a break from the smokey greys in 2014 before taking them in a different direction in 2015.

The grey helmets featured varying shades to match the contours of the Great Smoky Mountains while keeping the normal Power T and orange stripe down the middle.

The jerseys also featured a dark shade of grey around the shoulders while the lower portion of the jersey was a lighter shade.

These were worn the most out of any smokey grey uniform.

They debuted in Tennessee's win over Georgia in 2015 and were worn again in the win over Florida in 2016 and loss against Georgia in 2017.

The smokey greys weren't worn at all during Jeremy Pruitt's time at the helm or in Josh Heupel's first season in Knoxville.

The Vols brought back the second generation of smokey greys for their win over LSU in Baton Rouge in 2022, but it was later announced there were more generations of the look to come.

The Vols debuted the third installment of smokey greys for the Austin Peay game in 2023.

They primarily kept the helmet features with slight changes to the facemask. The jersey was a little bit darker, and there was a big orange yolk around the shoulders.

These were probably the most controversial of the smokey greys, and they definitely won't be remembered fondly as Tennessee's disappointing 30-13 win over the Governors will sour the memory of Vol fans.
