Vols Smoke Gators In Revenge Game
By Clayton Kilgore
No Zakai? No Igor? NO PROBLEM.
This game went EXACTLY as I thought it would. Down a pair of starters, twenty point blowout, who didn’t see that coming? Saturday we drank to health and happiness for our two stricken lads, Zakai Ziegler and Igor Milicic, but we did so victorious on the day.
What could’ve easily been “just one of those days” turned into a beatdown on our home court and we “skinned their ass raw” in a colossal bounce back win after dropping 3 of the last 4 games.
Thanks to 19 points from Chaz Lanier (stud, quick release) and 16 from Jordan Gainey (coach’s son, good motor, high basketball IQ) the Vols asphyxiated a talented Florida Gators team and came out on top, 64-44.
Just when you think this team might be hitting a rough patch and run into poor injury luck, they go and do this.
Impressive would be an understatement for Saturday’s win and it’s nice to see guys step up. I don’t mean Jordan Gainey and Chaz Lanier, they’re always there. I mean Bishop Boswell and Cade Phillips. This is a team that plays stifling defense and hopefully today was an offensive slump-buster.
This puts Peepaw Rick and the Gang at 5-4 in SEC play, which is very average, but guess what? Who gives a shit? What would we rather do, win the SEC again (been there, done that) or make a DEEP run in March? I’ll take the latter, thank you.
This was a much-needed win, to say the least. Never a doubt.
And to think there were some idiots out there that bet Florida to emotionally hedge after a rough stretch for the Vols. Couldn’t be me (it was me).
