Vols Losing Webb to Transfer Portal
By Tucker Harlin
A deep receiving core is taking a minor hit this offseason. Redshirt sophomore Kaleb Webb is expected to enter the transfer portal, marking the first of likely few departures from the group this season.
Webb was a four star recruit from McEachern High School, part of the recruiting hotbed that is the Atlanta area. He chose the Vols over power four programs such as Michigan and Louisville in the fall of 2021. Webb’s playing time increased in 2023 with the season-ending injuries suffered by Bru McCoy and Dont’e Thornton, but he seldom saw the field in 2024.

Aside from Webb’s decision to transfer and McCoy and Thornton’s eligibility expiring, the Vols will retain many of their key pieces at wide receiver from 2024.
Squirrel White has a senior season left while Chris Brazzell has two more seasons if he wants them. Freshman Mike Matthews will slide into the third receiver spot. Additional options at receiver in 2024 may include Chas Nimrod and Braylon Staley.
The Vols signed three more receivers as a part of their 2025 recruiting class.
Four star Travis Smith Jr. is the highest rated prospect Tennessee brings in at receiver, coming from the Atlanta area. Four star Radarious Jackson from Memphis and three star Joakim Dodson from Chattanooga are the other two signees.
