Tucker’s SEC Football Uniform Power Rankings: 9 Through 16

By Tucker Harlin

This is a continuation of my list of SEC uniform power rankings.

The first eight are also available on the Fanrun website.

9. ALABAMA

I value tradition and simplicity, and clearly Alabama does too.

The Crimson Tide’s uniform is in the same boat as Penn State and USC in that it refuses to change but is still iconic.

They aren’t flashy, and that’s why I have them right in the middle.

Color scheme is another element that keeps them above some of the other teams on the list.

10. GEORGIA

Georgia made their traditional uniforms better by going back to the jersey font it had before switching in the mid-2010s.

I really like the Bulldogs’ traditional look, but the alternates are what have them so low on this list.

The alternates are beyond questionable; they’re downright bad.

Whatever those alternates are that Georgia wore in the 2011 opener with silver on the helmet were awful.

The black alternate and white jerseys introduced and worn in 2020 were rightfully done away with.

11. SOUTH CAROLINA

This is the part of the list where it’s all about color scheme. I have nothing against garnet or black, but I don’t love them together.

I like the combination of white jerseys and white helmets on the road, but that’s about it.

The garnet and black helmets fine are with the white jerseys, but I don’t like them paired with the home garnet or black jerseys.

12. TEXAS

I admire Texas for sticking to the same formula for as long as it has with its uniforms.

I’m sure there are people out there that love the burnt orange uniforms and white helmets with the longhorn on it.

But I’m just not a fan of burnt orange.

13. MISSOURI

The patterns on Missouri’s uniforms would be great if they were in different colors.

I’m not Wiz Khalifa, so I don’t enjoy the color combination of black and yellow.

The other issue I have with Mizzou’s uniforms is that they change almost every week. It’s hard to tell what’s traditional and what’s not for the Tigers.

14. TEXAS A&M

Texas A&M is where it is for two reasons on this lists: its uniforms are basic and its color is maroon.

I’ve already documented my hatred for maroon in this list so I won’t do that here.

The reversion to the font the jerseys had before the Aggies joined the SEC is marginally better than the font they had previously.

The only thing that’s cool here is the state of Texas on the pants.

Kentucky is the textbook definition of a basketball school, and that’s evident even in their ranking on this list.

The Wildcats have evolved in the wrong direction from their uniforms in the mid-2000s. The chrome elements involved with some of the grey uniforms look like something a MAC school would sport.

Their home blue jerseys have undergone a change to outline the numbers in silver. They’ve also placed their secondary Wildcat logo on the shoulder, and that’s not a good looking logo.

16. VANDERBILT

Color scheme is absolutely part of the reason Vanderbilt is so low on this list. Black and gold simply isn’t an original idea.

Second, what on earth was Vandy thinking when it decided to replace the V inside the star with this new one that looks like it was designed by a four-year old?

And third, why would you put a white version of that V on a gold helmet?

This is definitely not the first time someone has questioned the thought process of the Vanderbilt athletics department.

But hey, at least the white V on the gold helmet is sort of original.
