About WKGN - Knoxville's Sports Radio Station Since 1947

Welcome to WKGN, Knoxville's premier AM radio station with a rich history spanning back to its founding by Clarence Beaman, Jr. on September 28, 1947. Over the years, WKGN has evolved, adapting to the dynamic landscape of radio broadcasting to become a prominent sports radio station in the region.

Our Journey Through Radio History

WKGN's journey has been marked by various format changes, showcasing our commitment to staying relevant and meeting the diverse interests of our audience. From Top 40 in the early 1960s to an all-disco format in 1978–1979, and a stint with adult contemporary in 1980, WKGN has navigated through different genres. Notably, in 1985, we embraced an urban contemporary format, achieving the highest 12+ Arbitron ratings since the early 1970s.

A Beacon for Sports Enthusiasts

In September 2015, WKGN took a significant leap by becoming affiliated with Fox Sports Radio. This marked a new era for us, establishing WKGN as a hub for both local and national sports talk shows. Today, we proudly stand as Knoxville's go-to destination for sports enthusiasts, providing a platform for engaging discussions and insightful commentary.

WKGN - More Than Just Radio

WKGN is not just a radio station; it's a community of dedicated individuals passionate about bringing the best in sports entertainment. From our early days as a Top 40 station to our current sports-focused programming, we've been committed to delivering content that resonates with our audience.
