Tony Vitello is currently the winningest coach in SEC baseball history by percentage.
As 247Sports’ Ben McKee points out, Vitello’s winning percentage is now .729 after Tennessee’s 7-0 start to the season.
That’s enough to vault him ahead of the legendary LSU coach Skip Bertman, who had a career win percentage of .725.
Vitello and Bertman were tied at the start of the year, but with all the winning Tennessee is doing, Vitello has a chance to not only be ahead of Bertman but stay there after this season.
McKee thanked Vol Baseball play-by-play voice John Wilkerson for pointing the stat out to him “to spite Vitello.”
Apparently Vitello said Friday that Wilkerson “ruins my life probably about every other week as he throws a stat at me that I don’t want to hear.”
So much success.
