Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli entered the transfer portal this afternoon, per Pete Nakos.

There has been much speculation about whether or not Tennessee will pick up a quarterback in the portal to help replace Nico Iamaleava.

Some folks are comfortable riding with Jake Merklinger as the starter. Others want a little more insurance.

Angeli has been a rumored target for the Vols. Whether or not the interest is significant or mutual remains to be seen — but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

He enters the portal as a grad transfer, according to CBS Sports, and is coming off a competitive spring practice where he split starting reps with two other QBs.

Angeli was the primary backup in each of the last two seasons for the Irish.

Over the course of his career, Angeli has completed over 72 percent of his passes for 772 yards and thrown 10 touchdowns — with only one interception.

Will Steve soon be a Vol? I’m sure we’ll know soon enough.
