Tennessee Basketball Transfer Tracker: Opening Night(s)

By Tucker Harlin

At the end of the 2023-24 basketball season, Tennessee lost four players to the transfer portal.

Five total transfers have left Tennessee in the last two seasons. Four of those five took the court for their new squads on Monday while the other one waits till Wednesday.

This is a look at their first performances in their new homes.

FREDDIE DILIONE V

Good Ole Freddie Buckets scored more in his Penn State debut than he ever did in a game while in Knoxville.

Dilione finished his evening 3/7 from the floor with 10 points, but scoreless from the three-point line. He started the game and played 23 minutes in the Nittany Lions’ 108-66 win against Binghamton.

Outside of scoring, Dilione recorded three rebounds, two steals, and a block.

B.J. EDWARDS

SMU began the Andy Enfield era with a 96-62 victory against Tarleton State.

B.J. Edwards started for the Mustangs and played 29 minutes. Edwards shot 50% from the floor, netting two of his three attempts from distance.

Edwards also racked up six rebounds, three assists, and a block to go with his 10 points.

D.J. JEFFERSON

Longwood defeated Randolph 79-68 in its opener. D.J Jefferson did not start for the Lancers Monday, playing just six minutes.

Both of Jefferson’s points were scored at the free throw line. He did some work outside of scoring, securing four rebounds and a steal.

On another note, this is what appears when you search “D.J. Jefferson” on Google:

TOBE AWAKA

Other than the fact he’s a starter, the stat line for Tobe Awaka in Arizona’s 93-64 win over Canisius should look very familiar to Tennessee fans.

Awaka went 1/3 from the floor for a total of four points and an assist on the offensive end. He also recorded nine rebounds, a steal, and, wait for it, four fouls.

Awaka is who the Wildcats are rolling with as their big man, which seems like a significant decrease in size from Oumar Ballo. Tommy Lloyd’s team will run the smallest it ever has in Tucson if Awaka is his starter at the five.

JONAS AIDOO

Arkansas defeated Lipscomb 76-60 in its season opener Wednesday night.

Kentucky transfer Zvonimir Ivisic started over Vols transfer Jonas Aidoo at the five spot. From various reports, it sounded like Aidoo had a chance of missing the Razorbacks’ opener.

Aidoo went 1/2 on field goals and grabbed three rebounds in seven minutes of play. If you’re into plus/minus, the Hogs were -10 with Aidoo on the floor, the lowest on the team.
