Sign Stealing Continued: New Details Emerge from Michigan Scandal

By Tucker Harlin

It’s been close to a year since the NCAA launched an investigation into the Michigan football program over sign stealing.

Two weeks from the premiere of Netflix Untold’s new documentary “Sign Stealer,” news from the scandal is still emerging.

Sherrone Moore could be facing a suspension to begin 2024 as he deleted 52 text messages to Connor Stalions the day the investigation took place. Additionally, Moore was in contact with recruits during a COVID recruiting dead period.

The report additionally confirmed Stalions was dressed as a Central Michigan staffer during the Chippewas’ loss at Michigan State.

Stalions also sent several interns and a staffer to steal signs from possible opponents of Michigan later on in the season.

This is one area of the investigation that fans of the possible opponents may like to see explored more.

It was confirmed that the interns had tickets for Tennessee’s contest against Kentucky in Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee turned into a playoff contender in 2022 but fell to South Carolina in Columbia the second to last week of the season. Interestingly, the Gamecocks left playoff contender Clemson with an upset victory the following week.

Before it faced Tennessee, South Carolina was 6-4 off a 38-6 blowout loss at Florida. After it beat Tennessee and Clemson, South Carolina lost to Notre Dame and went on to go 5-7 in 2023.

Those wins were mysterious, and some are suggesting Stalions and company may have sent the Gamecocks the signals to Tennessee and Clemson’s plays.

If that was indeed the case, the wins become easier to understand.
