Pat Summitt Did Something Incredible On This Day 16 Years Ago
By Cody McClure
It’s fitting that today is National Girls and Women In Sports Day.
On this day 16 years ago, Pat Summitt became the first college basketball coach in history to reach 1,000 wins.
A true pioneer, Summitt put together more wins than any coach ever had up to that point and had a statue built for doing so — and so much more.
The Pat Summitt Leadership Group pointed out the accomplishment today on their X account.
Summitt’s final record before her retirement in 2012 was 1,098-208.
Not to mention the eight national titles.
About as great as it gets.
