Lanier Named SEC Player of the Week

The SEC announced its weekly basketball honors Monday afternoon.

Tennessee transfer guard Chaz Lanier was named SEC player of the week for the week of November 18-24.

Lanier was named the tournament MVP at the Baha Mar Hoops Championship, scoring 26 points in a 64-42 victory against Virginia and 25 points in a 77-62 win over Baylor to win the tournament.

16 of Lanier’s 26 points against Virginia were scored in the second half, a game in which he knocked down six of 12 three-point attempts and 10 total field goals.

All 25 of Lanier’s points against Baylor were scored in the first half, cashing in on seven of 10 three-point tries.

The other player the league office recognized was Alabama guard Labaron Philon as freshman of the week. Philon racked up 16 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists in the Crimson Tide’s 100-87 victory over Illinois in the C.M. Newton Classic.
