Lady Vols Back Bid For WNBA Team In Tennessee
By Cody McClure
The Lady Vols are officially backing the bid of a proposal to bring a WNBA team to Nashville.
It comes as no surprise considering the proposed team has plans to honor the late legend Pat Summitt.
If you missed the news, on Thursday it was announced that the state of Tennessee was pushing for a new women’s basketball franchise in the Volunteer State.
The bid is being back by the likes of Bill Haslam, Peyton Manning, Candace Parker, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill. The team would be called the “Tennessee Summitt.”
Today the Lady Vols announced their support of the movement in a post on X.
“Led by Pat Summitt’s work and influence, the state of Tennessee taught the nation what it was to truly support women’s basketball,” the post stated. “Because of that legacy, the WNBA has a ready-made home waiting in the Volunteer State.”
“We back Pat. And we back the bid.”
Nashville will be competing with several other cities for the bid, including but not limited to Miami, Kansas City (backed by Patrick Mahomes), St. Louis, Houston, and Philadelphia.
