Tennessee’s stud five-star freshman offensive tackle David Sanders is reportedly progressing nicely in spring practice.
It’s not always easy for an offensive lineman to make an immediate impact in college football. There’s a lot to learn and a lot of adjusting to do from a physicality standpoint.
But Vols o-line coach Glen Elarbee has been pleased with Sanders’ progress, per comments courtesy of a 247Sports report.
“Early on, was challenging him, man, you want to play early, you have to learn everything and trying to push the envelope mentally,” Elarbee reportedly said after Tennessee’s practice Saturday. “I think he’s gotten a ton better there. He’s one of the ones that we’re trying to help learn how to be a pro as far as the note-taking piece of it. He is freaky athletic, freaky talented.
“Man, he flashes as much as anybody, and the amount of times that he’s able to go play full speed because he knows exactly what he’s doing is way more now than it was at the very beginning.”
Freaky athletic. Freaky talented. Flashes as much as anybody.
These freshmen come in pretty raw, but it sounds like Sanders has all the tools necessary to work his way into the starting lineup early on for UT.
“He’s just got to keep building on that to where, man, something changes and he doesn’t have to think, he can just react and go play. He’s, one, again, phenomenal kid. Has bought-in every single day, works and grinds his butt off. Comes over and meets extra, like he’s done a great job.”
