Cowherd: Tennessee is Winning the National Championship

The 2024 Tennessee Volunteers have rightfully drawn the attention of national media members for their performances in the first month of the season.

Josh Heupel already has a reputation as one of the strongest offensive-minded coaches in all of college football. Couple that fast paced offense with a defense that’s only surrendered two offensive touchdowns all season and you get a forced to be reckoned with.

It’s the exact crux of Colin Cowherd’s argument for the Vols to win their first national title since 1998 in 2024.

“I’m going to call it right now, Tennessee is going to win the national championship,” Cowherd told Joel Klatt on The Herd Wednesday. “I came on this show before the Oklahoma game and said Oklahoma is not going to score. Tennessee’s got the best defense in college football, (an) excellent coach, (and it’s) explosive offensively. I think Tennessee’s the best team I’ve seen. Tell me I’m wrong.”

Statistically, the Vols are averaging just shy of 566 yards per game, which is fourth most in the nation. The defense is giving up an average of 176 yards per game, the lowest number in the country.

Sure, Cowherd is known for his strong takes and there is a lot of season left to play. But becoming a national media darling means you’re doing something right.
