As we know, COVID-19 is taking the country by storm currently so let’s talk something positive unlike some sports outlets. It’s time for another weekly Tennessee football preview!

Lately, this young man has been speaking up recently on racial issues in our country and becoming a great young leader. Josh Palmer, that is who we are talking about today.

Palmer is returning for his senior season after having a pretty productive junior year. Palmer finished the 2019 season with 457 receiving yards and a touchdown. After being the third option last season behind Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway, the 2020 season should be HUGE for Palmer.

He has always been a deep one-on-one threat since he’s arrived in Knoxville and considering he’s 6’2″, that’s a problem for any DB. One of the biggest highlights of last season came from Palmer, when he tip-toed a touchdown catch against Kentucky. Not only is Palmer a big human being, he’s an athletic freak.

In order for Palmer to really take the next step and possibly become a NFL wide receiver after his time in the orange and white, he has to improve route running. I think honestly every Tennessee wide receiver needs to improve in this area but it’s major for Palmer because he will be the go-to target for whoever is taking snaps this season.

Palmer has explosive speed and size so there is no reason for him not to take advantage of shorter routes. With the Vols adding more of a running game this season and beefier offensive line, it should free up the middle of the field for Palmer and company.

As stated earlier, Palmer has already started this off-season being a vocal leader. He’ll need to be vocal all season considering the WR room is quite young. Lastly, i’ll make you a bold prediction.

Palmer will record 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns. Vol Nation, you better be watching because you’ll see great things from this young man this season.
