Tennessee is at the midway point of spring camp and another practice is in the books.
The media was allowed three viewing periods, but per usual, we didn’t see much.
I spent the majority of my time with the quarterbacks and special teams units. We didn’t really see any passing drills. During the open periods, they were mainly working on footwork and pocket drills. In terms of special teams, Marquez Callaway was receiving first team reps at returner. Tyler Byrd and Justin Martin were the other two options.
At linebacker, Darrin Kirkland and Daniel Bituli were getting first reps with Shannon Reid, Cortez McDowell, and Colton Jumper behind them. Reid is a true freshman and former four-star but he looks to be the quickest out of the group. If he can add on some weight and gain experience, he could develop into a potentially solid outside linebacker because he definitely has the speed to blitz or chase down players.
The running backs are still pretty thin, but Carlin Fils-Aime was back on the field taking second team reps behind John Kelly which was positive to see.
One last quick note: At the end of our viewing session and as you can see in the video, Jauan Jennings completely mowed down a student manager acting as a blocker (he’s alright by the way).
