Jeremy Pruitt and his staff kept up the Vols recruiting momentum by adding two more commitments Sunday afternoon.
The two newcomers give Tennessee football a total of 17 verbal commitments thus far, and move the Vols to number three in the 2021 247Sports team rankings, while boosting them past North Carolina to number 2 in the 2021 Rivals team rankings.
The Vols will have to do some major work in order to pass up Ohio State at number 1 on both sites.
3-Star S/CB De’Shawn Rucker
The first of the two to pull the triggers was De’Shawn Rucker. The 5’10 170lb safety out of Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee, Florida, made his commitment public via Twitter Sunday afternoon at 3:22 pm.
Rucker is 3-Star recruit according to 247Sports.com, but his offer list suggests he may climb much high in his impending senior season.
Rucker holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, and Florida State, just to name a few. The Vols are believed to have beaten out Clemson for the number 32 safety prospect in the country.
Rivals.com lists De’Shawn Rucker as a 3-Star cornerback, so don’t be surprised if Rucker lines up at either secondary position for the Vols.
4-Star RB Cody Brown
The second commitment came just one hour later at 4:22 pm Sunday afternoon as 4-Star running back Cody Brown from Lilburn, Georgia, picked the Vols.
The Parkview High School product is 6’0 227lbs and has highlight tape that will make your jaw drop.
Brown is the number 124 player in the country, according to 247Sports.com.
He is also the number 9 running back in the 2021 class and the number 11 prospect out of the state of Georgia.
Brown is Tennessee’s third-best commitment of the 2021 class thus far behind Terrance Lewis and Dylan Brooks.
Looking forward to the upcoming week, Tennessee will look to build on this staggering recruiting momentum as their attention will turn towards 5-Star OT Amarius Mims out of Georgia, 4-Star OLB Aaron Willis out of Maryland, 4-Star SDE Jahvaree Ritzie out of North Carolina, 4-Star DT Katron Evans out of Maryland, 4-Star DT-QB Kaidon Salter out of Texas, 3-Star OT Colby Smith out of North Carolina, and 3-Star TE/ATH Trinity Bell out of Alabama.
The Vols still have an outside shot at 4-Star CB Isaiah Johnson out of West Virginia and 4-Star DT Payton Page out of North Carolina.
Be on the lookout for 3-Star OT Colby Smith, 4-Star DT-QB Kaidon Salter, 4-Star OLB Aaron Willis, and 4-Star DT Katron Evans this week as they all will likely make their college decision this week. Hopefully, Jeremy Pruitt will be able to add them all to the Vols’ recruiting ranks.
