Vols Land Former Maryland QB Kasim Hill

Maryland Athletics

According to numerous reports, the Tennessee Volunteers football team added another quarterback to their roster, as Kasim Hill has joined the team and enrolled in classes.

Hill previously was at Maryland where he played two seasons at for the Terrapins. Coming out of high school, Hill was a four-star prospect, ranked as the No. 233 overall player and the 10th best pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class.

He appeared in three games his freshman year, throwing for 230 yards on 21 attempts, adding on two touchdowns. Last season, he starred in 10 games for the Terrapins before he tore his ACL for the second time in his career.

Hill had a career game against Texas to begin last season. He finished the day throwing 17-of-29 for 222 yards, adding a 65-yard touchdown pass. In those 10 games last season, Hill finished with 1,083 passing yards, completing 84 passes on 170 attempts. He tacked on nine touchdowns and threw four interceptions.

Because of him playing in 10 games last year, he will have to sit out this season but could make a case to become a starter in 2020. The addition of Hill will add to an interesting quarterback race next season. Hill will be battling with Jarrett Guarantano, if he returns for his senior season, JT Shrout, Brian Maurer, and the highly-touted four-star Harrison Bailey. That will definitely be a topic of interest going into next offseason.

David Ubben, who covers the Vols for The Athletic had an interesting take on the new addition. It seems like the Vols are looking to build a stacked recruiting class by recruiting guys from the same high school. Not only was Hill from St. John’s College in the Washington, D.C. area, but the Vols latest 2020 commit, Mordecai McDaniel, currently attends the school, as well. One of Tennessee’s biggest targets of the 2020 class, Rakim Jarrett, a five-star wide receiver, who is ranked the third-best wideout in the nation also attends St. John’s College.

This isn’t the first occurrence in Tennessee’s 2020 recruiting class either. Tennessee has also locked down two players from Marietta High School and are looking to add more. Bailey goes to Marietta, alongside the recent commit BJ Ojulari, who is a four-star OLB. Tennessee would also like to lock down their teammate Arik Gilbert, who is currently ranked 10th overall in the 2020 class, and is the top tight end, as well.
