We are now two weeks into the SEC football season, and the Volunteers are sitting pretty at 2-0. At this point in the schedule, the Vols are one of four teams still undefeated in the SEC. After a disappointing drop in the polls following the Vols’ first win, the AP Poll is finally recognizing Tennessee as a top-end team in college football.

The AP Poll has The Vols at 14, moving up seven spots from last week. This is Tennessee’s highest ranking in this poll in nearly four years. The last time Tennessee was ranked this high was October 10th, 2016, when they peaked at 9. Unfortunately, Tennessee fell to 22 by season’s end.
Entering week 3 of the SEC season, the Vols have a chance to really earn some respect. They have an impending matchup against Georgia in Athens this weekend. It’s safe to say that if Pruitt marches down there and pulls off the upset, next week’s poll will have the Vols in the top 10, likely eclipsing that 2016 ranking. Hey, crazier things have happened.
