The Tennessee Vols hit the practice field on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for their upcoming game against South Carolina.

Here are some news & notes from practice:

JT Shrout looked to be taking some reps as the 1st string QB, alongside Jarrett Guarantano on Tuesday. I was told last night that Jeremy Pruitt & Shrout had a sit down meeting on Sunday, with Pruitt making it clear that JT needed to prove himself this week if he wanted to see the field. If today is any indication, they are trying to give JT a chance.

Now, the chance for JT & JG getting so many reps depends on the health of QB Brian Maurer. The QB, who suffered a concussion on Saturday, was taking reps during the WR group setting. Maurer had some fire on his throws, usually running 2nd or 3rd in the rotations. He was watching during the QB & RB work, talking with trainers. Tennessee will continue to monitor Maurer, which they were doing as the media first took the field.

Tennessee OL, Jahmir Johnson was a full participant during drills on Tuesday, as he continues to get back on track, since his knee scope. This Offensive Line continues to improve on the season, it will be interesting to see if they stick with the same five guys on Saturday.

The Vols had a “Walk Through” type practice on Monday, so getting back to full pads was the plan on Tuesday. As we were leaving the field, “Sandstorm” started blaring through the speakers, I am sure the guys dealing with some headaches were thrilled.

Tennessee OL, Wanya Morris discussed the atmosphere in Tuscaloosa this past weekend & when was the point he started to see this OL grow up physically. You could easily tell that Morris is enjoying his time & seeing him enjoy taking questions, always with a smile on his face.

Wanya also discussed how this group is trying to encourage the QB’s & work to get better each day.

Tennessee DB, Jaylen McCollough spoke with the media about his sack against Alabama, his confidence level since first arriving & how this team can build upon this past weekend’s performance.

Tennessee TE, Austin Pope discussed the disappointing loss to Alabama & how this team moves forward from here.

We will see Tennessee practice again on Wednesday & hear from Jeremy Pruitt that evening. Keep up with FoxSportsKnoxville for the latest news & follow @TreyWallace_ on Twitter for coverage.
