Vols Get Commitment From Promising Receiver

Ramel Keyton announced his commitment to the Vols this past Wednesday, according to Ryan Callahan from 247Sports.

The 247 Composite has Keyton rated as a four-star prospect. Callahan states that this addition moves Tennessee into the top-20 of their rankings for the 2019 class,

This is yet another momentum-building piece to the Pruitt puzzle. According to Callahan, this makes the seventh commitment for the Vols’ 2019 class.

In Keyton, the Vols would be getting a guy who is already, as an exiting Junior in high school, comparable in size to All-SEC performer and first round pick Calvin Ridley. As Callahan reports, Keyton is standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing in around 186 pounds.

The prospect from Marietta, Ga could be a foundational piece for what has the potential to be a top-10 class. So far, Pruitt’s staff seems to be focusing on players who are physically imposing. This is a very good sign. Pruitt has coached at places like Georgia, Florida State and Alabama. The common denominator between those schools; athletes who have a combination of size and talent.

Per 247Sports’ stats, Keyton accounted for 1,194 yards and 16 touchdowns. If he builds on this production, the Vols could be looking at a five-star athlete come signing day. Keyton already has the size, especially when you factor in the 10-15 pounds he will likely put on by the time the 2019 season kicks off.

The recent commit has been interested in Auburn. Per 247Sports’ timeline, Keyton took two unofficial visits to Auburn this year. However, Tennessee has apparently stolen some thunder.

It certainly seems that Pruitt and his staff are going after guys who can match up physically with the class of the SEC. Pruitt, whose last stop was at Alabama, is all too familiar with coaching and recruiting players who are ahead of the curve athletically.

If they keep up the pace on the recruiting trail, it might not be long before Tennessee is able to keep up with the likes of Auburn and Alabama on the field.
