Tennessee has lost 13 straight to Alabama, dating back to 2007.
This year, Alabama is a 21 and a half point favorite according to MyBookie. We love the sponsors.
The Never Ending QB Controversy
I wrote earlier this week that it’s too early to be talking about Pruitt’s job. But one of the big issues he’ll have to resolve if he wants to keep his job is the quarterback situation. Is there an actual, real answer on this roster? I don’t know.
Jarrett Guarantano is not the solution. Everybody should know this by now, including the coaching staff.
There’s questions as to if freshman Harrison Bailey is ready. Do you throw him into action and see what he can do at the risk of it being too early? Or do you let him marinate more while the team plummets back into mediocrity and despair?
Brian Maurer is MIA. Rumors abound that he doesn’t get along with the coaching staff and he may be transf…never mind.
And JT Shrout showed he probably wasn’t the move by promptly throwing a pick on his first pass of the year. If only JG got that same treatment, am I right?
So is there an answer? I don’t know, but Pruitt and company need to find one, and soon.
Alabama May Score 100
Mac Jones is 90-115 for 1,518 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions, and Alabama still has one of the best rushing offenses in the conference.
You read that right.
The only reasonable comparison I’ve seen so far for this Alabama offense is the LSU offense last season. There’s weapons everywhere, and can beat the best defenses (Georgia) just about any way they want.
Oh yeah, rememeber that Georgia defense that took Tennessee behind the woodshed a couple weeks ago? This Bama offense just hung 41 points on them last weekend with just one turnover.
Anyway, Alabama has the best quarterback, best running back, and best wide receiver corps in the conference. Maybe the country. Can Tennessee’s defense put together a complete game and minimize the mistakes to maybe keep this one close?
Saban And His Assistants
Hey! Have you heard Saban hasn’t lost to his former assistants? Ever??? He’s 24-0 against them! Wow!
And did you know that Jeremy Pruitt (head coach at the University of Tennessee) is a former assistant of his???
I try and prime people for the annoying storylines that Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson won’t shut up about on the broadcast. Here’s your winner, this week.
Can Pruitt Rally?
Morale is low. On the team and in this fan base. The Georgia loss was tough to swallow, but the ensuing Kentucky loss was unacceptable.
Can Pruitt right the ship and get things going in the right direction again?
We already covered the quarterback. That’s a start. The offensive line needs to show up, and the defense needs to play a complete game.
And the mistakes. Whoa buddy the mistakes. Tennessee is averaging two turnovers and 54 yards of penalties per game so far this year. Gotta get those numbers down if you plan on competing in games like this..
Not many people expect Tennessee to win this game. Tennessee just isn’t at the same level as Alabama yet.
But it’s the SEC on CBS game in Neyland. And we all could go for something to be positive about in these negative times. Is it too much to ask for Tennessee to just cover the spread?
