Ty Simpson, a five-star quarterback prospect from Martin, TN, has officially announced his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The top-ranked quarterback from the state of Tennessee announced his decision on Friday.
“It was very difficult,” Simpson said about the decision-making process before his announcement.
When asked about when he officially made his decision, Simpson made it clear that it was actually very recent.
“Last night,” said Simpson during his interview. “Last night was the final decision of where I was going to go.”
Four other teams were in the running on Simpson’s decision day: Clemson, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and UT-Martin.
Simpson’s father, Jason, is currently the head coach at UT-Martin.
According to 247Sports, the Westview high school product is currently listed as the third-best pro-style quarterback in the 2022 class and is the second-best prospect in the state of Tennessee behind DT Walter Nolen.
The announcement was not surprising to most. Prior to his announcement, all nine of the expert predictions on 247Sports had picked Alabama.
Ty Simpson stands at six-foot-two and weighs in at 185 lbs. During the 2020 season, Simpson completed 124 of 203 passes for 1,888 yards, 20 passing touchdowns, and only four interceptions. The talented senior also added in 311 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground.
In March of 2020, Simpson attended the Tennessee junior day under Jeremy Pruitt but hasn’t officially returned to Knoxville since.
Tennessee will continue to look for Josh Heupel’s first commitment to the 2022 class.
5* QB Ty Simpson is headed to Alabama.
From Westview HS in Martin, TN and reportedly a longtime Vols fan.
