Three Vols Named To All-SEC Teams

First and second All-SEC teams were announced Tuesday afternoon and three Vols earned the honor of being named to the list.

Sophomore kick-returner Evan Berry was named to the first-team special teams unit, sophomore running back Jalen Hurd made the second-team offense, and sophomore defensive end Derek Barnett earned second-team defensive honors.

Evan Berry was the top kick returner in America in 2015, averaging 33.41 yards per return, with 3 kickoffs taken back for touchdowns.

Jalen Hurd was the 4th leading rusher in the SEC with 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 190 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns through the air.

Derek Barnett tallied 61 tackles on the season. He also had 11.5 tackles for loss and 9 sacks, which put him at 5th in the SEC in total sacks.

What stands out most about these All-SEC selections is that all three players are true sophomores. They will all be back in orange and white in 2016 and that has to be a scary prospect for the rest of the SEC East.

These honors only further raise expectations for next season and solidify the fact that the Vols have closed the talent gap with the top-tier teams in the SEC under Butch Jones. They should not only be able to be a serious contender for an SEC title next year, but they could very well be in contention for a playoff berth, as well.
