The Vols were back on the field Friday afternoon for their 13th practice of Fall Camp 2020.
Jeremy Pruitt and company were looking to build some competition with guys finally back from quarantine. Pruitt is still searching for depth at the defensive line, a position that is important to success in the SEC.
“There were a couple of guys that showed improvement to me. Prime (Kurott) Garland I thought had his best practice. Ja’Quain Blakely continues to work hard. He’d been out a few days but he’s back. We’re taking baby steps up there, and we’ve got to continue to do that. The next several practices are really big practices for those guys. We need to get out of the baby steps and probably start taking some leaps.”
Tennessee wide receiver Brandon Johnson discussed what it’s been like having guys miss practice and trying to keep the chemistry within the offense.
“I wouldn’t say we’ve had issues doing that. I think we’ve done a great job of filling in where we need to fill in and also with that playing at a high level. I think that everybody in the receiver core, they come to practice every day ready to go. So therefore, let’s say a receiver drops down, there’s no drop off in the level of play. Everybody is playing hard, so that kind of allows us to have the same kind of timing just in case somebody is out for whatever reason.”
With two weeks to go until the Vols take the field in Columbia, time is running out on getting this group ready to go.
