The Right Decision Is To Start Brian Maurer Against Alabama

Brian Maurer

Insanity is described as being extreme, foolish, or irrational, and that’s exactly the approach Jeremy Pruitt is taking with the quarterback situation.

Last Saturday against Kentucky, Tennessee fans saw the worst way to handle the quarterback situation.

5th-year Senior Jarrett Guarantano threw two pick-sixes and was still getting thrown back into the game.

What world are we living in?

In fairness, J.T. Shrout didn’t show promise with his interception into triple coverage. But, those mistakes are somewhat okay with the lack of playing time. JG is making those mistakes as a 5th-year senior.

The Vols get Alabama on Saturday, and even though the game was close for a while last season, it’s hard to see that happening again.

The big question of the week is, who will start at the quarterback position?

For starters, you can’t let Guarantano start, or Neyland will be filled with boos.

Shrout has the best arm strength on the team, but I really don’t feel like he is the right fit for the offense, especially with a struggling offensive line.

Harrison Bailey is the future, but I’m concerned with his lack of practice time. The clear answer here is Maurer.

If Maurer didn’t get hurt against Alabama last season, it could have been a different outcome. Maurer brings a spark. He can run around and can make things happen.

From what I’ve seen last season and some this year, Maurer is the cockiest. Give me the dude that thinks he can go toe-to-toe with Alabama and win.

That’s what Lane Kiffin does, and his teams always perform.

If Tennessee wants to salvage this season after getting destroyed by Kentucky, then the quarterback position must be addressed first, and it needs to be Brian Maurer.
