“It’s Technique Tuesday!!”

That was the theme constantly being yelled over the sound system today.  The music was full of oldies including ACDC, Tom Jones, and Earth, Wind & Fire, straying away from the usual Drake or as Butch likes to say, “FloRIDER.”

The media was allowed five consecutive open periods which is the most I’ve seen since this past August.  However, even though we got to see about 30-35 minutes of drills, we still didn’t see much.  I tried to spend a little bit of time with each offensive group and special teams (we aren’t allowed to see defense up close).

The quarterback situation remains the same.  Jarrett Guarantano, however, looked very mobile in some running drills that we haven’t got to see before.  Dormady showed better pocket presence.  Will McBride is continuing to progress and drew the praise of Mike Canales and Butch several times.

On the offensive line, Trey Smith looks to project as a starter.  He’s got insane size for a freshman and has good technique early on.  He’s still got a lot to work on in terms of footwork and small details, but he just will more than likely vie for the starting left tackle position with Drew Richmond.  However, he’s also been getting first reps at right tackle since Chance Hall is out.

The running backs were thin today, at least in terms of scholarship players.  John Kelly was seen leading in some drills and by that I mean acting as a “coach.”

Evan Berry was announced as out for spring camp in Butch’s opening presser, and that has allowed for some other guys to step up in the return game.  Some of the better looking returners are Tyler Byrd, Marquez Callaway, Marquill Osborne, and Nigel Warrior.  Butch praised Warrior on almost every rep he had and showed breakaway speed.  Warrior was also seen enjoying some Earth, Wind & Fire as you can see at the end of the video.
