Tennessee basketball is making waves again when it comes to big-time out of conference matchups on the hardwood.
According to Jeff Goodman, the Vols will play in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. Baylor, Rutgers, and Gonzaga (the Vols matchup), are the other three teams apart of the tournament.
Tennessee will also play in a loaded Charleston Classic the week before Thanksgiving. Florida State, Houston, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Seton Hall, VCU, and Charleston are all apart of the Classic.
Since Rick Barnes has been at the helm, the Vols have played in some huge matchups. Two seasons ago, Tennessee played Louisville and Kansas in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Gonzaga was also apart of the non-conference slate that season.
Mark Few’s Bulldogs were ranked number one heading into the game. Tennessee was still at the point in the season where they were trying to make a name for themselves.
Admiral Schofield led all players with 30 points on 6-of-10 from the three-point. Grant Williams fouled out late in the game, which gave Schofield no choice but to hit big shot after big shot.
Tennessee has other non-conference games against Wisconsin, Cincinnati, and Memphis next season.
The Vols should have one of the best rosters in the nation. John Fulkerson should be the best big in the SEC next season. His ability to score on the block is just as good as any other player in the nation.
Santiago Vescovi and Josiah Jordan James are returning from the starting lineup and should play considerable roles in getting the team ready for tough early-season action.
The Jimmy V Classic is always one of the best events all season. It’s really cool to see the Vols back in Madison Square Garden.
