Tennessee was back on the practice field Tuesday afternoon, as they prepare for a matchup with the Gators.
The Vols started the day with some bad news, as Kivon Bennett was arrested and dismissed from the team. So, they will be looking for replacements in the pass rushing department. Bennett recorded four sacks over the past two games for Tennessee.
Tennessee has been hit pretty hard over the past eight days with contact tracing, with two positive cases according to Jeremy Pruitt. The Vols are missing multiple starters on offense and defense right now, but Pruitt seemed hopeful they would get some of them back before the Florida game.
“We’ve had two guys test positive but it dates back to when we came back from Auburn, but unfortunately with the contact tracing that number has grown a pretty good bit there. It’s knocked us out of a lot of the guys, which they’ll start coming back in here toward the end of this week.”
The quarterback position has been a hot topic over the course of the season, but the Vols could be turning in a different direction for Florida. Jeremy Pruitt said on Monday that one quarterback was affected by contact tracing. As we previously reported, Jarrett Guarantano wasn’t at practice last week.
The quarterbacks for Tuesday were Harrison Bailey, JT Shrout and Brian Maurer, with Bailey getting a good amount of reps with the 1’s. It’s my opinion that the Harrison Bailey could get his first start of his career on Saturday against Florida. Now, with Jeremy Pruitt saying that some players could get out of quarantine before the game, Guarantano might be available on Saturday. Even so, I still believe Bailey will probably get the nod, unless something changes.
