Watch Ernie Johnson’s Touching Tribute To His Friend Greg Gumbel

By Cody McClure

March Madness studio coverage kicked off today with a touching tribute to the late Greg Gumbel.

Ernie Johnson began the broadcast — along with Clark Kellogg, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith — with an emotional, heartfelt homage to the legendary broadcaster.

The Rolling Stones’ “Waiting on a Friend” was the backing soundtrack, as Gumbel loved the Stones.

It’s the perfect song for the words that were said by the panel. Viewers could really tell how much Gumbel meant to Johnson.

Gumbel died back in December at age 78 after a battle with cancer.

He had previously worked in March Madness studio coverage since 2011’s CBS/Turner Sports deal launched.

Check out the video below. RIP Greg Gumbel.
