Vols Lose Reserve Center to Portal

By Tucker Harlin

Cooper Mays isn’t the only center Tennessee will lose this offseason.

Redshirt freshman Vysen Lang announced his intent to enter the transfer portal late Tuesday morning. Lang appeared in just four games in 2023 and saw limited action this season.

So, where does Tennessee turn to address its need at center next season?

The portal is an obvious answer. The experience and leadership Mays brought to the position will be sorely missed, something that we got a taste of in his absence to start 2023.

If Josh Heupel doesn’t use the portal, William Satterwhite is a name to keep an eye on.

The Vols recruited Satterwhite as a four star interior offensive lineman from the Akron area. In addition to Lang, Satterwhite took numerous snaps in mop up duty this season.

Max Anderson is further down the depth chart as an option for the Vols should Satterwhite not work out. Like Satterwhite, Anderson is a four star interior offensive lineman, but he hails from the talent-rich area of Frisco.
