Two Vols Defenders Tabbed with SEC Weekly Honors

The SEC bestowed two of its weekly honors to Tennessee defenders following the Vols’ 23-17 overtime win against Florida Saturday.

Edge rusher James Pearce Jr. was named defensive lineman of the week. Pearce finished the night against Florida with half a sack, a tackle for loss, seven total tackles, and a forced fumble and subsequent recovery at the goal line late in the second quarter.

Pearce split the honor with LSU’s Bradyn Swinson, who recorded eight tackles, a pair of sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a pair of pass breakups in the Tigers’ win over Ole Miss.
Vols defensive back Boo Carter split the SEC’s freshman of the week honor. Carter finished Saturday with seven tackles, a sack, and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Carter split the award with Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren, who threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-31 loss at Georgia.
