The National Football League just announced the salary cap for the 2025 NFL season, and yet again it is sky high compared to last year.

Although the final figure has yet to be agreed on by the NFL players association (NFLPA), the range of the new cap will be between $277.5 million and $281.5 million according to NFL.com.

The increase is from an annually calculated formula that is based on league revenues, media rights deals, and other factors.

The NFLPA will meet with the NFL to discuss the salary cap and finalize it, including the possible addition of $4.5 million to make up for last year’s salary cap negotiations.

Compared to the $255.4 million cap last year, it is either a $22.1 million or $26.1 million increase.

This follows the largest increase ever last year of $30.6 million, and starts to show a trend of roughly 10% increases over the past years.

The rapid increase is largely thanks to the $111 billion media rights deal the league signed in 2021.

Just 10 years ago the salary cap was only $143.3 million, and in 10 years the cap could be well over $400 million.

One thing stays the same, however.

Running backs will be underpaid for the pivotal role they play in this league.
