Social Media Reacts to “Piped Crowd Noise” Comments

By Tucker Harlin

The crowd at Neyland Stadium was a critical component of Tennessee’s 24-17 win against Alabama Saturday, an environment Jalen Milroe admitted to causing the Tide offense problems.

The crowd is also the subject of a brewing online controversy.

Sometime in the middle of the game, Crimson Tide Sports Network play-by-play announcer Chris Stewart used the phrase “piping in” to describe the crowd noise at Neyland Stadium. The clip made its rounds on social media late Monday morning.

Stewart wasn’t the only one in the Alabama camp to make the claim Monday. Former Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron joined the fun later Monday afternoon.

As these claims found their way into the hands of Tennessee fans, official university outlets began their trolling.

Tennessee athletics director Danny White put out a post in defense of Neyland Stadium after being mentioned in the conversation.

Once White spoke, the Tennessee team accounts followed.

Crimson Tide Sports Network hasn’t issued a formal statement, not that it’s expected to do so. But it has blocked some Vol fans on X.
