SEC Football Playoff Coming Soon?

It’s been a pretty boring week on the sports calendar. At least for me.

Football season is over, of course. No midweek basketball game for the Vols. Early season midweek baseball doesn’t really move the needle.

So unless you’re one of the eleven people watching the NBA right now, you’ve probably been pretty bored too.

Luckily today we’ve got a great news story regarding SEC football.

Apparently the conference is considering having its own PLAYOFF.

Now this is something.

Four meaningful games in November to determine the conference’s four auto-bids into the CFP.

Graham Coffey says it’s a regular season killer, but I love it.

How is it a regular season killer? Teams are still going to have to do enough winning in September and October to make the cut for this.

It’s worth mentioning, though, that this is not the only proposed model for these games.

Another proposal considered could be having No. 1 and No. 2 in the SEC locked in while seeds 3-6 play for the last two automatic qualifying spots (No. 3 vs. No. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5).

Either way I think this helps with meaningful games in November that have real stakes.

It all hinges on whether or not the SEC and Big Ten get their way in having four automatic qualifiers apiece moving forward.

I like it, but I understand that many people do not like it.
