Food For Thought: Real and Hypothetical Food Associated with SEC Schools

Paint the Kitchen Red

By Tucker Harlin

They’re calling the chickens in Fayetteville.

Tyson Foods announced Thursday it would be releasing “Razorback Nuggets” in select stores in Arkansas and southern Missouri.

The Tyson family, along with the Walton and Jones families, are some of the biggest financial supporters of Arkansas athletics. In fact, the relationship between John Tyson and John Calipari is a big reason why Calipari was brought over from Kentucky.

So, why aren’t other companies in SEC country doing the something similar?

This is my stab at ideas (and existing ones) associated with different SEC schools and food companies.

TENNESSEE- Power T Pops, Mayfield

As a Tennessean I’m completely biased with this take, but there isn’t a better ice cream sold in grocery stores than Mayfield.

There’s a creamy consistency to it that Blue Bell could only dream of having. Additionally, Mayfield’s dairy farm is in Athens, Tennessee, about an hour away from Knoxville.

If Mayfield wanted to make a product for its local customers, an orange creamsicle Power T Pop would sell well.

Just make sure the sticks are in the shape of a T because the sides would melt off it wasn’t.

OLE MISS- Chicken on a Stick, Chevron

This isn’t really an idea or even a company associated with Ole Miss, but a staple that’s too hilarious not to include.

The 4 Corners Chevron in downtown Oxford, Mississippi is famed for its creation of chicken on a stick.

It’s hard to imagine Ole Miss fans wanting to buy chicken on a stick in Mississippi grocery stores.

It would also ruin the experience of going to 4 Corners Chevron for the sole purpose getting chicken on a stick.

LSU- Tiger Tenders, Raisin’ Canes

Maybe this is a little too similar to “Razorback Nuggets” and probably just as weird, but it at least has the alliteration piece down.

The Louisiana fast food chain has helped Tiger fans in the past as its owner played a big part in LSU winning the College World Series Jello Shot Challenge in 2023.

Tiger Tenders might weird out Tiger fans, but they’ve got to find a hangover snack somewhere.

OKLAHOMA- SuperSonic Sooner Sack, Sonic

Recently, it was announced that the Oklahoma City-based chain is the new “quick service food” of the SEC (much to the dismay of Chick-Fil-A fans).

I don’t know what exactly the contents of the SuperSonic Sooner Sack would be, but you could probably put five or six burgers along with large portions of sides in it.

It would make for a good tailgate catering option.

TEXAS A&M- Aggie Cinnamon Apple Cream, Blue Bell

Even if I don’t claim to enjoy it the way I do Mayfield, Blue Bell is undeniably one of the best selling ice cream brands in the country.

That said, Texas A&M has already given the naming of rights of its baseball stadium to the ice cream giant.

If Blue Bell wanted to do something in return, it could help the Aggie faithful out by giving them an ice cream flavor sold in stores in the state of Texas.
