The UT Board of Trustees reportedly met Friday to discuss a couple of campus parking projects.
While the board did approve steps to build two new campus garages — which will certainly improve things down the road — parking is going to be rough in the short term.
Part of G10 will be demolished and replaced with a new multi-story garage. This new one will hold 1,200 spaces and sit on the site of the current garage.
G10 is a popular gameday tailgating area.
As part of the approved plan, campus parking will be limited in the fall. First-year students, in fact, are “encouraged not to bring a car to campus.”
“The second parking garage that the board approved is a multistory structure that will hold up to 4,000 cars on the southeast side of campus,” a WVLT report stated.
