More On Tomorrow’s AEW Event In Knoxville
By Donaven Cook
All Elite Wrestling presents AEW: Dynamite! live from the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on Wednesday.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. and doors will open one hour prior.
AEW was kind of started as a bet.
Noted wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer said no show could sell out a 10,000-seat arena in 2019 outside of WWE, and those who founded the company a few months later took that as a challenge.
They sold out the show within 10 minutes.
Owner Tony Khan, son of Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham F.C owner Shahid Khan, loved professional wrestling from a young age and his father told him to “spend some of your inheritance before I’m dead.”
T.K. did just that.
He funded some of the top independent wrestlers across the world to become a part of his new promotion — with help of Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, Kenny Omega, and Cody Rhodes.
Rhodes has since left to go back to WWE.
Dynamite became a weekly episodic wrestling show on October 2, 2019 and has been with Warner Bros. Discovery family, now having a partnership with MAX for streaming.
Khan also purchased long-time independent wrestling promotion R.O.H. (Ring of Honor).
Top acts such as Omega, Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, Toni Storm, Mercedes Mone’ and Adam Cole have made a name for themselves elsewhere and have carried their dedicated fanbase with them to AEW.
A more performance-based product focusing more on the athletic competition in the ring than the storylines, AEW has a niche group of fans who pride themselves as being more knowledgeable about the business than the common fan.
The announced card for Wednesday so far is:
“The Rated R Superstar” Cope vs. “The Bastard” PAC, Julia Hart vs. Jamie Hayter, AEW Tag Team championship match between champions Private Party vs. The Hurt Syndicate, Samoa Joe vs. Nick Wayne, and Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega will come face-to-face in the ring.
From a wrestling fan since the 90s, let me leave you with this little piece of advice.
The matches and storylines are “pre-determined,” not fake. And if I find you calling it fake, I will do my very best to contact Jeff Jarrett and/or The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (who have appeared on Fanrun programming this week) to get them to let you in the ring to be suplexed off the top rope, through a table.
Have a nice day!
