Zakai Zeigler broke the Tennessee program record for all-time assists last night.
The Vols’ senior guard was tremendous in UT’s 77-62 win over Wofford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Zeigler had 12 points, but more important than that, arguably, was his 12 assists.
It gave Zeigler the school record: 716. That’s the number.
After the game, Zeigler met VFL Johnny Darden, whose record he broke.
Darden was UT’s all-time assists leader for almost 50 years. He played at UT in the mid-1970s.
“I knew he had it in him,” Darden said of Zeigler. “There is still a lot more out there. His leadership is great. I love the way he controls the game.
“He’s a true point guard … I have not seen a true point guard in a long time.”
The two shared a warm embrace after the game. Great moment.
