The North Carolina Department of Transportation has issued some great news for travelers.

I-40 is opening back up to traffic on Saturday (March 1).

One lane in each direction will be open at 35 miles per hour through narrow lanes, the NCDOT posted.

They issued a warning to anticipate delays and still consider the alternate route of I-26 West to Kingsport then I-81 South to Dandridge.

Looks like you’re in luck if you were considering kicking off March in Asheville.

Maybe plan for a little extra time on your route.
