How much money exactly is Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark responsible for?
Reports surfaced recently that suggested Clark has helped drive a significant amount of money to the WNBA. Significant, like, in the millions.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as most of us are aware that her popularity seems to have completely revitalized the game.
An economist recently calculated that Clark was responsible for $36 million in economic impact to the city of Indianapolis and almost 27 percent of the league’s economic activity for last season.
That includes attendance, merch sales, and television.
Yet Clark will make just $78,000 in annual salary.
Now she’s got some endorsement deals that add quite a bit more to that but still, her value seems to greatly exceed what the WNBA can pay her.
Clark’s agent, Erin Kane, recently said it is not possible to fully compensate Clark for what she’s meant to the WNBA.
“Will Caitlin Clark ever be paid by the WNBA what she’s really worth to that league? I don’t think that’s possible,” Kane said.
"She's part of a larger player body. They all need to be paid more. She should be recognized for what she has done and what she's brought to the league from an economic standpoint. It's as simple as that."
