Florida is Handling the Billy Napier Situation Very Poorly
By Clayton Kilgore
Well, this is weird.
Usually these types of press releases would indicate that someone’s been hired or fired, but instead they’re reminding everyone that Billy Napier is, in fact, still the head coach of the Florida Gators.
“Hey everyone, I know there’s been a lot of chatter and we’re staring 5-7 in the face for the second year in a row, but it's fine. Don’t listen to the rumors, we definitely haven’t contacted Lane Kiffin and we have NOT fired Billy Napier. In fact, we’re giving him a ringing endorsement! Anyway, thanks for your patience, go G8rs.”
Personally, I love this news.
They’re more or less handcuffing themselves to him, for now, and throwing away the key. If they U-turn and go hard after Kiffin or fire Napier at any point in the near future, then this announcement from the Florida AD is even more bizarre.
This is sure to go over well amongst the Florida fanbase.
Citing the changes that have happened in college football as your reasoning for becoming complacent is a bold move. Especially when Napier is currently 16-20 in his time at Florida with the #51 recruiting class for next year (according to 247sports).
