Fanrun Fantasy Scoreboard: Week 5
By Tucker Harlin
Week 5 was an interesting one in the Fanrun Fantasy Football Fight.
Four of the six matchups wound up in a competitive manner. The weekend featured the shootout of shootouts and the upset of upsets in this league.
Only one unbeaten remains five weeks in (it’s not me).
Here’s a breakdown of the Week 5 Fanrun fantasy action.
JON REED 115.82 vs TUCKER HARLIN 108.34
I guess Vanderbilt stormed the field when it beat Alabama in the Fanrun fantasy league too.
Jayden Daniels took a slight step back for Jon with his 19.72, which was still better than Josh Allen’s 14.64. Allen is all over the map in the first part of the season so I’m starting to get a little concerned about him.
I think my biggest concern right now is at running back this week.
Jon didn’t have a stellar week out of his running backs, but that’s by design. Aaron Jones left the London game with an injury while my first overall pick Breece Hall had a second consecutive stinker. Derrick Henry’s 16.6 was the best I got at running back.
Garrett Wilson and Brandon Aiyuk finally decided to go off for Jon while my receivers finished with thoroughly mediocre outings.
I’ll take my win at tight end with the 15.8 Kyle Pitts scored, especially after the donut he threw out last week.
My defense scored 14 this week and I outscored Jon at kicker 9-1, but that wasn’t enough.
Between the two of us, my bench had a better week. I benched Stefon Diggs and Michael Pittman Jr this week for Jayden Reed and Chris Godwin, but they were only marginally better on my bench.
Jon had Kyler Murray and Mark Andrews outperform starters, but he got enough out of the tight end and quarterback positions.
MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES 116.04 vs BOB BASKERVILLE 132.98
Bob won decisively at quarterback with Joe Burrow going for 33.78 while C.J. Stroud scored an average 15.94.
Running back was a tight battle, but The Hound was victorious as Brian Robinson Jr was his lowest scorer at the position while Issues’ low was the 10.7 from Bijan Robinson.
Not a great week for anybody at receiver in this matchup as the 15.8 Nico Collins scored for Issues came at the cost of a hamstring injury.
Both sides had a terrific weekend from their tight ends, but Bob again came out with a narrow victory thanks to an unlikely 24.8 from Tucker Kraft.
Javonte Williams scored a season-high for Bob at flex with 16.1, almost double Najee Harris’ output on the other end.
The defenses ended the week in a 7-7 draw, and Issues won big at kicker thanks to Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 16.
Tee Higgins, Trey Sermon, and Geno Smith all had terrific outings on MIssues’ bench, all of which outscored a starter at their position by a wide margin. Bob didn’t leave much on the bench this week as everybody was either hurt or on a bye week.
RUSSELL SMITH 120.76 vs TIM HILL 97.64
This was one of the only true blowouts of the week in the league this week.
Dubsy doubled Tim up at quarterback with a nice game from Joe Flacco while Patrick Mahomes finished with a little over 13.
Russell did better at running back with Jordan Mason and James Cook’s production. Peaches was dealt a tough blow with the injury to Jonathan Taylor.
Dubsy doubled The Thrill up at receiver thanks largely to the 19 Zay Flowers scored. Deebo Samuel and Amari Cooper combined for 13 on the other side.
Tim narrowly won out at tight end, flex, defense, and kicker. Colby Parkinson had a strong 12.2, James Conner scored an average 14, the Jets defense scored 11 in the loss to the Vikings, and Younghoe Koo scored 15 on Thursday.
DeMarcus Robinson and Rome Odunze were the only players to outscore starters for Russell and neither scored more than 12 points. Xavier Worthy’s 11.8 and Blake Corum’s 4.3 were the only outputs that outscored some of Tim’s starters.
CODY MCCLURE 115.36 vs RYAN BROWN 99.34
Another week, another win for the Varsity Athletes against a team with a rough showing.
Quarterback and running back were both big wins for Cody. Kirk Cousins’ career night more than doubled Justin Fields’ production, and while neither Travis Etienne nor Rachaad White had a great week, it didn’t take much against the combined 5.2 from DeVon Achane and Emmanuel Wilson.
Ryan did have a pair of important wins at receiver and tight end.
He doubled up Cody at receiver with respectable outings from both Allen Lazard and Josh Downs. Tyreek Hill did what he could for Cody, but Jerry Jeudy dropped a stinker. Brock Bowers had a terrific week at tight end while Jake Ferguson scored a solid 13 for the Varsity Athletes.
Cody’s last two wins were at flex and defense. Neither flex was good, but Jerome Ford’s 7.9 was enough for Cody while the Broncos defense scored him 15.
Ryan had a slight advantage at kicker thanks to Greg Joseph’s 11 while Cody is now dealing with a rare kicker injury.
Rico Dowdle was the only bench player that played better than some of Cody’s starters. Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Goodson outscored both of Ryan’s starting running backs.
WILLIAM PATTESON 144.04 vs JACE BROWN 153.32
This happened to be the week the two best scores in the league faced one another.
Both sides featured outstanding quarterback play, but Jace still won by a nice margin with Lamar Jackson’s 33.42.
Running back play was consistent for Bill as both Kenneth Walker and Rhamondre Stevenson scored in the teens. Jace lost here because of the 6 Zach Charbonnet scored.
Both had a terrific performance from at least one receiver. William scored 33.4 with Drake London, but Jace got the win here thanks to a ridiculous 41.3 from JaMarr Chase. Jace got another close win at flex thanks to the 16 Wan’Dale Robinson scored in Malik Nabers’ absence.
Jace picked up another win at tight end with Travis Kelce performing like the guy Jace thought he was drafting a month ago.
Bill won at both defense and kicker. He stayed at 10 with the 49ers defense while Buffalo scored 2 for Jace, and Cam Little edged out Justin Tucker 14-13.
Bill left a 31.5 on his bench from Darnell Mooney, a score that could easily have made his week the best in the league. Every player not on bye on Jace’s bench scored between 11-16, resulting in a few bench players outscoring starters.
HOUSTON KRESS 92.96 vs SAM BEARD 118.36
This was the only other matchup that could be classified as a blowout this week.
Quarterback play was rough in this one. Houston won with ease from a 13.06 with Brock Purdy while Sam Darnold scored just over 4.
Houston apparently didn’t want the complimentary 1.2 from Carson Steele at running back. Neither Roschon Johnson nor Alvin Kamara had their best day for Sam, but at least they did better than the donut Houston left in his lineup with Joe Mixon.
Sam dominated the weekend at receiver as both Justin Jefferson and Mike Evans did what you’d expect the two of them to do. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was fine for Houston, but Dontayvion Wicks only scored 4.
Tight end and defense were Houston’s last two wins. The Rumor Mill had a satisfactory 16.3 from Isaiah Likely while the Vikings outdueled the Bears on defense 18-15.
Sam won big in battle of Jags receivers at flex with Brian Thomas Jr putting up 18 more than Gabe Davis. The kickers split a 5-5 draw.
Houston’s only bench highlights were average performances from Jaylen Waddle and Dak Prescott. D.J. Moore did better than all of Sam’s starting receivers, and Rashid Shaheed had a quality 18.6 on Monday.
