Fanrun Fantasy Scoreboard: Week 3

By: Tucker Harlin

Week 3 of fantasy football is in the books for the Fanrun Fantasy Football Fight.

After three weeks, there are three unbeatens, three 2-1 teams, three 1-2 teams, and three winless teams in the league.

There were a handful of high scores this week from Bob Baskerville, Jace Brown, Tim Hill, and yours truly. There were three pretty ugly matchups this week, one of which was decisive for the top of the league.

Here’s your Week 3 scoreboard:

MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES 110.8 (2-1) vs TUCKER HARLIN 156.22 (3-0)

This is the second week this season where I’ve had an exceptional week and my opponent had a good enough week to beat over half the league.

C.J. Stroud had an uncharacteristic 9.8 in the beating the Texans took from the Vikings while Josh Allen hovered around 31 for the second time this year.

The beast in Derrick Henry finally came to life in the form of 30.4 points while my first overall pick in Breece Hall remained consistent with his 18.3-point outing. More Important Issues didn’t have it so well at running back as top pick Bijan Robinson led the way with 13.2 and J.K. Dobbins scored a season-low 8.4.

Issues beat me at receiver with Chris Olave scoring a season-high 20.8 while Nico Collins put together an average performance. Chris Godwin’s 17.3 was nice for me but I made the mistake of benching Stefon Diggs instead of the underperforming Michael Pittman this week.

I came out on top in a close, low scoring battle at tight end with Kyle Pitts edging out Pat Freiermuth 7.9-7.3, most of Pitts’ points coming on one play. In fact, Pitts being tackled at the 1-yard line is the reason Issues got that Bijan Robinson touchdown.

Lots of points were scored at flex this week, but Issues won a close matchup there with Chuba Hubbard scoring just shy of 28 for the resurgent Panthers while Aaron Jones scored 25.8 for me. They got me on defense as well since the Brown underperformed against the Giants and the Steelers did the Steeler thing to the Chargers.

I shutout Issues at kicker. Kai’mi Fairbairn missed a field goal and made an extra point while Brandon Aubrey scored 50 and 60-yard field goals and an extra point for me.

Aside from Diggs, Jayden Reed and Noah Fant were my only two bench pieces that outperformed starters, but this week did nothing to make me want to start them.

As for More Important Issues, Geno Smith, Najee Harris, and the performance of the century from Jauan Jennings all outscored their starters. Injuries and bad matchups are the reason these guys did better than some of the starters.

TIM HILL 147.88 (2-1) vs RYAN BROWN 89.48 (0-3)

Peaches finished this week with the biggest margin of victory and best score in the Fanrun Fantasy Football Fight in Week 3.

Quarterback play wasn’t great in this one as Tim won out with the 16.38 Patrick Mahomes scored while Derek Carr remembered how to be Derek Carr just for Ryan.

The Thrill dominated by a thorough 58.1-22.2 margin at running back. Kyren Williams and Jonathan Taylor both had spectacular weeks while Alex Mattison was the high scorer for Ryan with 13.4.

Tim won decisively at receiver too, but Amari Cooper’s 27.6 was the only impressive outing in that matchup as everyone else scored 8 or less.

Tim finally had a good week from Tyler Conklin while Brock Bowers took a step back for Ryan. Both defenses had good weeks, the Jets edged out the Seahawks 16-12 in favor of Tim.

Ryan’s two wins this week were at flex and kicker. Courtland Sutton pieced together a satisfactory 13.8 while James Conner had a bad week for Tim, and Harrison Butker beat Younghoe Koo 13-7 on Sunday Night Football.

Other than Tank Dell and I guess Mike Williams or Justice Hill, there wasn’t much production on Tim’s bench that outplayed his starters.

The same cannot be said for Ryan, who had both DeAndre Hopkins and Allen Lazard on his bench at receiver. At quarterback Jared Goff and somehow Will Levis outplayed Derek Carr at quarterback.

Keenan Allen and Christian McCaffrey and can’t come back soon enough for Ryan.

BOB BASKERVILLE 127.66 (1-2) vs JACE BROWN 138.68 (1-2)

Monday night turned this into one of the better looking matchups in Week 3. Both Bob and Jace had the weeks I knew their teams were capable of before the season started.

The quarterbacks put up similar scores, but Jace held a slight advantage with Lamar Jackson outscoring Joe Burrow 25.98-25.36.

Neither side had a great week at running back. The 16.3 scored by Jahmyr Gibbs for Jace was the best it got on both ends.

The receivers were far more productive in this matchup than the running backs. Both sides had over 40 points scored as Rashee Rice and Ja’Marr Chase both scored around 29, but Bob came out on top thanks to Marvin Harrison Jr’s 17.4.

The battle at tight end was close, but Jace had a narrow edge with Travis Kelce’s 7 and a bit of luck with Sam LaPorta’s sprain.

Their flexes had nice weeks. Jace got the win in a battle of Zach/ks with Charbonnet outproducing Moss 25.7-20.7

Jace won out on defense with a nice week from the Bills while Bob had a less than stellar 5 from the Texans.

Bob’s only other win in this one was at kicker. Evan McPherson finished with 8 while Justin Tucker continued to be a disappointment for Jace.

Khalil Shakir was the only piece on Bob’s bench that found himself outscoring a starter with his 19.2, but that’s not a guy you start most weeks.

Not that he needed it but Jace’s bench had an incredible week. Dallas Goedert decided to drop 27 this week, Jakobi Meyers scored 21.2 in the Raiders’ loss to the Panthers, and both Austin Ekeler and Wan’Dale Robinson scored over 13.

RUSSELL SMITH 101.38 (2-1) vs SAM BEARD 102.94 (3-0)

What was supposed to be a heavyweight bout turned into a rock fight between two of the best teams in the league.

Sam had no problem winning at quarterback. Sam Darnold had a season-high of 23.24 while Anthony Richardson had a dreadful 5.08 on the other end.

The opposite happened at running back with Russell scoring in excess of 50 while Sam broke 20. Saquon Barkley had an incredible week and James Cook remained consistent,

Both Sam and Russell had one good performance and one bad performance at receiver, but Russell had slight edges in both.

Sam had advantages both at tight end and flex. Trey McBride left early for Russell while Dalton Kincaid scored a season-high 13.1 for Sam, and D.J. Moore’s season high of 15.2 over Jordan Mason’s 10.8.

The combined score at defense and kicker was an ugly 6-2 in favor of Sam, the Bears defense scoring five of Sam’s six while both of Russell’s points came from the Titans defense.

Far and away the two best performances on Russell’s bench were Devin Singletary and Rome Odunze hovering around 20, who could be worth starts over Jordan Mason in the near future.

Terry McLaurin scored a solid 20 for Sam, but that was his only bench player to hit double digits.

JON REED 70.88 (0-3) vs HOUSTON KRESS 96.88 (1-2)

Another ugly battle, this one turned out to be a fairly decisive victory to give the Vol Rumor Mill his first win of the year.

Houston won big at quarterback with Brock Purdy outscoring Kyler Murray 25.78-14.78.

Believe it or not, the guy who doesn’t believe in drafting running backs actually had a 20-8.4 edge at the position. Houston also didn’t pull Joe Mixon from his lineup, not that Jaylen Wright’s 1.7 would’ve made much of a difference.

Houston was able get a slight edge at receiver thanks to the 20.5 Amon-Ra St. Brown put up for the Lions. The 1.4 Isaiah Likely scored won the Rumor Mill that position as Likely’s teammate Mark Andrews had no catches.

Flex and defense were both nice victories for Houston as he hovered around 14 at those spots while Jon had just 5 each there.

Houston’s other victory was the 5-2 win Greg Zuerlein had over Nick Folk at kicker.

The only player on Houston’s bench that meaningfully outperformed a starter was Dak Prescott scoring 29.86.

Jon had Diontae Johnson and Bucky Irving both outscore starters on his bench. Johnson in particular would’ve helped this week, but that’s not a guy you can rely on to have a great week.

CODY MCCLURE 89.54 (3-0) vs WILLIAM PATTESON 64.82 (0-3)

Cody is the one guy in every league whose wins have all come as the result of his opponents having horrible weeks.

Neither side had a very good week at quarterback. Cody came out on top 10.94-9.42 with Jalen Hurts over Trevor Lawrence.

Bill scored a grand total of 2.5 at running back this week. Cody didn’t even need Travis Etienne’s 12.5 to win in that department.

Both sides had decent weeks at wide receiver, but Malik Nabers’ 28.2 was quite a bit higher than William’s than the 18.7 from Drake London.

Cody’s last big win of the weekend was at tight end with Jake Ferguson outscoring for Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz 15.5-3.1. The Varsity Athletes had a pretty horrible week at flex, defense, and kicker, so Overtime Bill had some victories there.

David Montgomery and Jerome Ford outperformed Cody’s starters at running back, so maybe Montgomery was worth a start? Jerry Jeudy also outscored Tyreek Hill, but I wouldn’t start Jerry Jeudy if my fantasy football punishment depended on it right now.

William only had Darnell Mooney outscore CeeDee Lamb, but no one in their right mind starts Mooney over Lamb.
