Fanrun Fantasy Power Rankings: Week 9
By Tucker Harlin
The committee has spoken.
Here are your Week 9 Fanrun Fantasy Football Fight power rankings.
1. SAM BEARD (7-1)
Sam is back in first place with the loss Young Phillip Fulmer took to management.
Although he had to sweat it out against his cohost, Sam had good enough performances from star players like Justin Jefferson and Alvin Kamara.
Sam takes on his show mate from the former Fanrun Morning Show, Jon Reed. Nobody is on bye for Sam, but Brian Thomas Jr. will miss at least this week.
2. TUCKER HARLIN (6-2)
I’m putting myself ahead of More Important Issues because I beat them decisively early in the season. But overall, I feel terrible about the trajectory my team is on.
I lost one receiver for the season to a dislocated ankle in Week 7 and another to a torn ACL in Week 8. I’m now down to Jayden Reed and Michael Pittman Jr., so I need my running backs, Kyle Pitts, and Josh Allen to step it up.
Tim is my opponent this week, and he’s projecting very highly.
3. MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES (6-2)
The new kids on the Fanrun block have very quietly put together a strong fantasy football season.
MIssues had a monster Week 8, scoring 150.08 in with a low score of 8.08. They’ve managed to produce outside of Nico Collins and Tee Higgins at receiver, thanks to the work of Chris Olave and Keon Coleman.
Issues plays an improving Overtime Bill this week. Not sure what they’re going to do at tight end with George Kittle and Pat Freiermuth on bye.
4. JACE BROWN (5-3)
Jace put up a strong 146.06 in a 34-point victory over Tim last week. Tyler Lockett was Jace’s only player to struggle last weekend, and he’s not dealing with any injured starters at the moment.
Jace plays Russell in a battle of 5-3 teams. George Pickens and Chris Boswell are his only players of note on bye.
5. CODY MCCLURE (5-3)
Unlike the College Football Playoff committee, I understand the concept of head to head victories, so Cody is ahead of Russell in the standings.
Cody is limited to both David Montgomery and Rachaad White at running back right now. However, the return of Tua should boost Tyreek Hill’s production, and Ladd McConkey appears to be a hidden gem for the Varsity Athletes in the draft.
Cody plays an improving Vol Rumor Mill in Week 9. No Varsity Athletes have the week off.
6. RUSSELL SMITH (5-3)
Russell put a large number of 150.96 against the Vol Rumor Mill in Week 8.
Puka Nacua’s return has brought back much needed production, but Russell’s other receivers are beginning to taper off in their production. D.K. Metcalf has been injured and Zay Flowers likely won’t produce as much with Diontae Johnson coming into the fold.
Dubsy takes on his intern this week. The 49ers running backs are the only two players on bye.
7. WILLIAM PATTESON (3-5)
Overtime Bill had one of several teams that eclipsed 150 last week.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Rhamondre Stevenson, and CeeDee Lamb’s recent success is a big reason for the turnaround William is putting together in the back end of the season.
Bill has a tough test ahead in a 6-2 More Important Issues team. The 49ers defense is Bill’s only player on bye.
8. HOUSTON KRESS (3-5)
Houston is ahead of Tim due to a head to head victory, but he took one on the chin from his show mate.
Tight end, flex, kicker, and defense all let Houston down in Week 8. Isiah Pacheco and Greg Zuerlein are the Rumor Mill’s two players on injured reserve.
Houston plays Cody this weekend and Brock Purdy is his only player on bye.
9. TIM HILL (3-5)
Tim had a decent Week 8 but was still blasted by Jace.
Running backs are the best thing Peaches has going for him with Kyren Williams and Jonathan Taylor. Amari Cooper and Deebo Samuel have been hit or miss options at receiver, but Tank Dell’s run should increase with the Texans’ injuries at the position.
Tim plays Young Phillip Fulmer this week, in search of an upset.
10. JON REED (2-6)
Jon had a great Week 8, but his opponent had an even better Week 8.
Rashod Bateman was the only real down spot in his lineup last week with 3.8 points. It’ll be interesting to see what Diontae Johnson does with a new team in fantasy football, something that may behoove Jon with Brandon Aiyuk’s season ending ACL tear.
Jon plays the top ranked team in the league and his former show mate, Sam Beard. Jaylen Warren is Jon’s only player on bye.
11. BOB BASKERVILLE (2-6)
Bob lost a brutally close game to his cohost in Week 8. While his team looks a lot better than 2-6 on paper, Bob asked the committee personally to note managerial decisions as the cause of his shortcomings.
Bob plays Ryan in Week 9. He doesn’t have anybody on bye.
12. RYAN BROWN (1-7)
Ryan pulled off a huge upset over Young Phillip Fulmer in Week 8.
De’Von Achane and Cedric Tillman both flourished with new quarterbacks in the mix. The question now is if Ryan can consistently string together 130+ performances each week.
Ryan takes on #11 Bob in Week 9. Nobody is on bye for Ryan, giving him an opportunity to get his second win and move up in the power rankings.
