Former Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson spoke at the NFL scouting combine today.

The all-time great Vol discussed with reporters some adversity he faced as a kid.

So much adversity that he nearly stopped playing the game of football, which we all enjoyed him do so much this past season.

“I was going to quit football for a minute after my grandfather died. That was a big moment in my life,” Sampson said. “Kind of found myself being lost in that moment. Lot of things going on. The great flood of 2016 in Louisiana. Grandfather diagnosed with cancer for the second time… hit him hard.”

It was a difficult time for Sampson, but he found refuge in the form of a Bible verse.

“Kind of lost my way for a minute. But I woke up and found the verse Romans 8:28 and it was just speaking to me,” Sampson added. “My family prayed over me and I felt like this was what I should be doing. I have an impact in this, not just on the field but off the field.

He later added:

“If you’re living your life right off the field, everything will come to you on the field.”

This guy gets it.
