Deion Sanders Wants Colorado To Play Another Team For Spring Game

By Cody McClure

This is an idea that has been floating around college football for a couple of years now.

It’s an idea that many of us would love to see.

Why not do spring games similar to the way the NFL does the preseason?

Play another team. Simple enough. A competitive outing that draws fan interest.

What’s the downside? A player could get hurt, sure. But that could happen practicing against your own guys, too.

Colorado’s Deion Sanders seems to be on board. In fact, he says he’s trying to do it.

“The way the trend is going, you never know if this is going to be the last spring game,” Sanders said recently of Colorado’s upcoming event. “I don’t believe in that. I don’t really want to condone that. … Actually I’d like to play against another team in the spring.

“That’s what I’m trying to do right now. To have it competitive. Playing against your own guys kind of gets monotonous. You really can’t tell the level of your guys because it’s the same old, same old. Everybody kind of knows each other towards the end.”

Sanders added that he would like to see college spring games become more like the NFL.

“I would like to style it like the pros. … Practice against someone for a few days and then you have a spring game. I think the public will be satisfied with that tremendously. I think it’s a tremendous idea. I told the personnel who should understand that’s a tremendous idea.”
