‘Bring The Hostages Home’ … Bruce Pearl’s Post-Game Comments

By Cody McClure

It’s time to bring the hostages home.

That’s what Auburn coach Bruce Pearl says.

The top-seeded Tigers advanced past the Bluejays 82-70 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night.

Pearl opened his post-game press conference after beating Creighton by talking about Israel and Gaza.

“I believe it was God’s plan to give us this success … to give us this platform … to give me an opportunity to start this press conference really briefly and remind the world that Edan Alexander is still held hostage in Gaza right now,” Pearl said.

“An American held hostage. And not enough people in this country know his name. I asked the players if it was OK if I started this press conference and just called out the name of an American.

Pearl left those in attendance with an emphatic statement:

“Bring the hostages home.”

How would we feel if Rick Barnes opened up a press conference talking about hostages?

It would certainly be his right, but it would be shocking. Here’s the clip:
